How to edit an article

Strategically AI generates highly-optimised SEO articles straight out of the gate. However, it’s always recommended that companies review and edit the article to ensure they meet your brand goals and customer needs. This guide will walk you through the simple steps to edit an AI-generated article quickly and easily.

1. Check the article meets the correct intent

Estimated time: 1-2 minutes

When the AI article has been generated, check that it matches your intended topic. This is most common when the target keyword is an abbreviation or if the keyword has different meanings in different contexts.

While this doesn’t happen often, occasionally, the AI will take a keyword, for example, “PDA meaning,” and instead of writing about “Public Displays of Affection meaning”, it will write about another meaning for the acronym PDA.

2. Remove excess AI terms

Estimated time: 1-2 minutes

Do a quick scan of the article for common AI phrases, such as “in the world of,” “moreover,” and “in the realm of.” Generally, at the start of a sentence, these terms can be repeated a couple of times in an article, but they are really easy to cut out.

3. Remove any off-topic sections

Estimated time: 2 minutes

On occasion, the AI can write about topics that are slightly off-topic. Scan through your article and cut out any full sections that are not aligned with the topic.

Estimated time: 5 minutes

Internal links are highly important for SEO. Before you publish your article, make sure to add any relevant internal links to related articles on your website.

Estimated time: 3 minutes

Review the article to see if there are any opportunities to add external links. Don’t link to competitive websites, and make sure the links are only to high-quality websites.

6. Fact-check the content

Estimated time: 3 minutes

All content, whether AI-generated or human-written, needs to be fact-checked. Take a few moments to read the article and confirm it is factually correct, updating as needed.

7. Add bullet points or lists

Estimated time: 2 minutes

A great way to make your content more human-friendly is to add lists or bullet points. By adding a small amount of formatting, you easily improve the readability of the article.

8. Add brand mentions

Estimated time: 8 minutes

Perhaps the most time-consuming part of the editing process, but also one of the most important. The article is generated using an analysis of the top-ranking pieces of content for your target keyword, which means, by its nature, it is not tied to your business—yet!

Take a look at the article and find opportunities to:

  • Recommend your products or services
  • Add compelling calls to action to drive conversions
  • Tie content to your business goals or customer needs

9. Check the Content Score

Estimated time: 1-2 minutes

As standard, most of our articles are naturally well-optimized; however, on occasion, there may be room for improvement. In the event the Content Score for the article is lower than you would like, it only takes a few minutes to optimize it.

In the SEO Content Editor, review the NLP suggestions on the right-hand side of the page. If the terms are green, they are included an optimal number of times; however, if they are amber or red, there is an opportunity to remove or add instances of the search terms. As you update the article, it will save automatically, and update the score based on any changes.

There’s no need to overoptimize. A score around 65 or above is sufficiently optimized without being stuffed.
